STYLE A WEDDING RECEPTION BUFFET

By LaFleur Magazine

An elaborate hors d’oeuvres and drink buffet creates casual elegance for an outdoor wedding reception, particularly when hosted under an elegant, draping tent. When planning a beautiful buffet area, consider first how to stage it. If the wedding is a more casual affair, with finger foods and a buffet style menu, consider a rustic look with layers of crates set on wine barrels and an old door as a serving top. It will be important to select a top with a flat surface in order to set drinks and dishes without tipping.

Arranging a floral backdrop around the buffet area makes a beautiful decorating statement, along with centering the space, while creating added drama. The styling possibilities of floral backdrops are endless such as suspending flowers from the traditional center or corners of a wooden or metal arch, to hanging wreaths or garlands from a large tree. A free standing fireplace mantle, or vintage furniture piece, can also be set up and adorned with flowers for a more rustic look.
To decorate the buffet, begin by layering wood crates and vintage serving pieces for a visually appealing display of food and a practical serving area for guests. If you are after a vintage look, mix up styles and materials of your floral containers by using items such as antique candlesticks, old glass bottles or bud vases, that look great with metal and wood containers. Select a variety of vases in varying heights to create movement and interest to the buffet area.
Casual Menu & Wine

A casual menu is suited well to tent wedding receptions. For a warm weather wedding, Rosé is a great option for drinks and look lovely displayed on the drink buffet. Another great drink option that looks beautiful displayed on a drink buffet, is a fruity colored margarita.

Casual menu items can include artisan breads, mini sandwiches, pastry, cold cuts, and mini dessert trays. Finger foods are a wonderful and easy menu for warm weather events, especially when hosted under a tent. Serving guests is simplified by setting one buffet in the center of the tent, to allow guests to eat at their leisure, or plan tables to serve on at a time.
