MID SUMMER FASHION PICKS

By Catherine Medina

I can’t believe we are already half way through summer. Summer is my favorite season and it always goes by way too quick! I enjoy all of summer’s best adventures, especially BBQs, camping, hiking and laying poolside. Living in Utah offers plenty of opportunity to get outdoors to explore.

Most days, you'll find me soaking in the natural beauty of Salt Lake, exploring a new hiking trail, or planning the next weekend camping trip with friends and family.
What I Wear
Getting through summer's hot days requires lighter fabrics to stay comfortable. When selecting outfits, I like to keep it casual and flowy.

I look for loose fitting pieces, or light fabrics that breathe well. I typically pair a light colored, simple top with a skirt or cute shorts. Prints and florals are fun too. Here are two of my favorite go-to outfits:
Romper Style

For taller gals like me, finding a romper that fits well can be a challenge. It can be really difficult to find a shorts romper that doesn't ride up too far. I have found a pretty great solution by shopping for off the shoulder styles. Off the shoulder is a great option because the cut typically offers extra length, allowing room for a better fit. This off the shoulder style I am wearing, by Socialite, fits me perfectly!

Mid-Summer Makeup

Throughout summer, I like to keep my makeup very natural. A natural look coordinates with all the best summer looks, and doesn’t appear overdone with shorts, skirts, rompers or a cute summer dresses. For summer nights, I might add a darker shade of lip color to my simple, understated day makeup.

I usually splurge when it comes to makeup and love to buy more expensive, quality products, but recently I stumbled upon a few really affordable options that I am loving.
Foundation

Maybelline's Dream Velvet soft-matte hydrating foundation, in porcelain ivory, is only $10 and I absolutely love it!

The Dream Velvet foundation leaves the skin feeling refreshed, even on the very hot and dry days, and perfects the complexion for a smooth, velvety, soft-matte finish. The product was designed to keep skin hydrated for 12 hours, and I have found this to be perfect for summer’s hot and dry weather.

Added benefits include:
  • Extra hydration and great for velvet-smooth complexion
  • Ideal for normal to combination skin, with medium coverage
  • How to Apply

Foundation

For natural looking summer makeup, apply Maybelline’s Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation by using a foundation brush, or foundation blending sponge. This application allows for natural coverage.

Blush
  • NYX's Baked Blush in Solstice applies just enough color for summer days, and it's just $6.99.
  • NYX Professional Makeup is a great natural option for all over coverage
  • Baked blush, in Solstice, is a great option for light color and natural coverage

NYX Professional Makeup's Baked Blush, is packed full of pigments to provide a natural glow and highlight to your overall look. It is uniquely designed to be applied wet or dry, depending on the makeup statement you want to make.

How to Apply

When used dry with a brush, the look is light and fresh. If you want more color, apply wet with a blush brush or makeup sponge for added color intensity.

Lipstick

L'Oreal's line of nude shades allows you to select the shade based upon your unique skin tone. The Julianne nude is delicate, elegant, and works well with my pink undertone tone. It’s a barely peach shade that enhances pale pink based skin tones. It’s also complimenting for fair and rose complexions. Check out all the other nude shades for a tone that works well with your skin.
  • My new favorite lipstick, L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Nude Lipcolour, in Julianne’s nude, is $8.99
