Bend, Oregon is the largest community in Central Oregon, considered a destination and recreational hot spot for couples, families and those looking for year-round adventure. Many have dubbed Bend as the outdoor playground of the West, for several reasons.
The natural surroundings provide stunning backdrops for making unforgettable memories, along with providing year-round recreational opportunities. The list of outdoor recreation is pretty endless, including mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding and skiing, river rafting, kayaking, and scenic trails. In Bend, and surrounding communities, there is a lot to explore outside of recreation too.
LOCAL THINGS TO DO

If you are planning a vacation to Bend, it isn’t a matter of, "Is there anything to do?" It's a matter of: "What do we feel like doing?" Bend thrives with cute little shops, bike shops, outdoor gear, antique shops, vintage markets, Old Mill main stream shopping, eclectic and speciality shopping downtown Bend, along with big box stores. From a food and nightlife standpoint, Bend offers a variety of brew pubs. Many breweries offer live music, such as Crux Fermentation Project (great during summer months). Sunriver Brewing, located in Bend and nearby Sunriver; a great for family-friendly dining and great food. Various coffee shops offer live music throughout the week, such as Backporch and Jackson's Corner (both east and west locations). A fun, family-friendly coffee shop is Looney Bean located downtown Bend. This little quaint coffee shop offers a cozy place to unwind and connect as a family. Outdoor games keep littles busy when it's warm outside. Outdoor seating offers a beautiful view of the Deschutes River.
SCENIC THINGS TO DO

Les Schwab Amphitheater is the large live music venue for Bend, and is located a few miles from the hotel in the Old Mill District. This area of Bend is very scenic and hopping with activity. Set along the Deschutes River with majestic Cascade Mountain backdrop, Old Mill hosts many noteworthy artists and performers, along with events and an exceptional summer concert series. usually starts its summer lineup over Memorial Day weekend and continues through the early fall. 

The Deschutes River is ideal for a casual float, guided white water rafting trip, kayaking or paddle boarding during the summer months. A river access point is located roughly 2 miles from the hotel. There are great changing rooms located near the Bend Parks and Recreation building near Old Mill shops. There is also a nearby park to let the kids play.

Local Trails & Mt. Bachelor

There are plenty of local trails within a short driving distance to explore waterfalls, lakes and the gorgeous Cascade mountain range. Additionally, Mt. Bachelor offers year-round recreation. During the winter months (Central Oregon has a long winter season, typically running from November through May) winter sports begin at Mt. Bachelor. Mt. Bachelor is the 6th largest ski resort in North America, with over 4,000 skiable acres, 3,365’ of vertical drop, and 101 runs to explore. Although impressive, Mt. Bachelor doesn’t get the mass crowds as other larger national ski resorts. This creates a wide open feel to skiing and riding Mt. Bachelor that you don’t find at most big mountains. Surrounded in breathtaking National Forest, the atmosphere is serene and breathtakingly remote. Nordic trails also abound at Mt. Bachelor, providing ample opportunities for epic cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Mt. Bachelor resort also offers snow tubing and dog sledding for family members of all ages. 

When the warm weather hits, and snow begins to melt, Mt. Bachelor, attracts hikers and those ready to explore the biking trails. In warm weather months, wild mountain flowers begin to flourish. What was once a winter wonderland, evolves into a warm weather playground for trail enthusiasts and families looking for summer adventures.
NEARBY PLACES TO EXPLORE

If you are looking to explore outside of Bend, try Sisters, Oregon and Sunriver, Oregon. Sisters is a quaint town with country, down-to-earth charm. Local stores and Sisters Coffee are wonderful and must-visits. Sunriver offers scenic beauty and also local coffee and shops to explore. Miles of biking trails loop throughout Sunriver, offering great options for scenic biking.
